IAPMO, developer of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC), is calling for public comments on the Reports on Proposals for the 2027 editions of these codes.

The IAPMO Young Professionals Committee will act as an idea lab for connecting with a broader set of emerging industry leaders.

The publication comes at a critical time when the United States faces a significant housing shortage, with an estimated deficit of 3.8 million homes.

The deadline to submit comments is Sept. 5.

Industry stakeholders — including installers, manufacturers, plumbing professionals and the general public — are invited and encouraged to apply to participate.

IAPMO has posted online the 2024 Report on Proposals (ROP) for the 2027 editions of these eight-time American National Standard-designated model codes.

The Z1403 standard will update flow rate and flush volume assumptions that have been industry standard since the 1940s and establish IAPMO’s widely adopted Water Demand Calculator as an ANSI/CAN standard.  

Proposals accepted by the technical committee will appear in the 2027 NSPC.
