On June 3, PT. IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) Group Indonesia officially inaugurated the renovated sanitary facilities at Salafiyah Kholidiyah Islamic Boarding School in Plumpang, Tuban, East Java, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to improve hygiene and public health in educational institutions.

The project involved a complete overhaul of the school’s previously deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, which included poor hygiene conditions and broken toilets. Renovations featured the installation of new toilets, taps, handwashing stations, and an upgraded waste disposal system to provide students with clean, functional, and environmentally friendly facilities.

This initiative is part of PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia’s broader commitment to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, with a focus on increasing access to proper sanitation in schools. The aim is to reduce the risk of disease, encourage clean living habits, and support student well-being.

The inauguration ceremony was opened with remarks by Dr. Muhammad A.S. Hikam, MA, chair of the Board of Trustees of the Salafiyah Kholidiyah Foundation; Donny Purnomo JE, ST, main secretary of the National Standardization Agency; and Dewi. The event also featured a hygiene education session led by Muhajir Asrori, chair of the National Plumbing Association (APIN), which included handwashing demonstrations and guidance on maintaining clean toilet facilities.

According to data from UNICEF and the World Health Organization, more than 40% of schools in developing countries lack adequate toilet and handwashing facilities — conditions that can lead to serious health issues among students. PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia’s project addresses these challenges head-on by fostering sustainable sanitation solutions within the school community.
