IAPMO Seeks Technical Subcommittee Members for Development of Z1167 Standard

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) has made the 2019 Uniform Solar, Hydronics & Geothermal Code (USHGC) and Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa & Hot Tub Code (USPSHTC) Technical Committee Meeting Monographs available for download.

All individuals anticipating an active role in the ANSI-accredited consensus development of the Uniform Codes at the Technical Committee Meetings, June 18-19, in Ontario, California, will want to download these documents in Adobe PDF format from the following URLs:

USHGC: http://codes.iapmo.org/docs/2021/USEHC/2019%20USHGC%20ROP%20Monograph.pdf

USPSHTC: http://codes.iapmo.org/docs/2021/USPSHTC/2019%20USPSHTC%20ROP%20Monograph.pdf

Hardcopy versions will not be available at the meetings.

The Technical Committee Meeting Monographs contain every code change proposal submitted for the 2021 editions of the USHGC and USPSHTC as part of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited consensus code development process employed by IAPMO.

Topic areas for proposed changes to the USHGC include: disinfection of potable water systems; backflow prevention devices; chemical additives and corrosive fluids; pressure and safety devices for hydronic systems; water-source and air-source heat pumps; new material standards for hydronic and solar thermal system piping and fittings; fire prevention for surfaces in contact with solar collectors; new insulation thickness tables for piping and tubing installed in solar thermal systems; new material and installation provisions for geothermal energy systems.

Topic areas for proposed changes to the USPSHTC include: flood resistant design and construction for flood hazard areas; dynamic coefficient of friction for slip resistance of wet hard level surfaces; lightning protection systems; safety clearances and installation provisions for islands and bridges; material and construction standards for swimming pools, spas and hot tubs; depth markers; new turnover rates; equations for bather load capacity; competitive swimming equipment and applicable standards; beach entry pools; swimout benches; exercise spas; deck sizing and drainage; ventilation requirements; humidity control and acceptable pool/spa water temperatures; salt water systems; water chemistry; overflow systems; heat exchangers; updates on provisions for ladder, step and stair construction; hand railing load requirements, location and sizing; entrapment prevention systems; interactive aquatic play equipment; method for determining the latent evaporation loads of natatoriums.

IAPMO urges its members and other interested parties to get involved in the code development process to ensure effectiveness in preserving the public health, safety and welfare through fair and balanced development of the Uniform Codes. Installers, plumbing and officials, the construction industry, engineers and manufacturers all benefit from a cooperative effort in developing codes.

For specific information about the USHGC and USPSHTC Technical Committees, please contact Taylor Costea at (909) 218-8126 or e-mail your question to taylor.costea@iapmo.org.
