Bee+Hive Members Build Sustainable Hotels

Bee+Hive Members Build Sustainable Hotels

Bee+Hive, a not-for-profit association that unites hotels and partners committed to sustainable tourism experiences, has announced its most innovative design hotels, which also offer sustainable experiences.

Treehotel offers a unique hotel experience: treerooms with contemporary design in the middle of unspoiled nature. Here guests can forget about the time constraints of everyday life, enjoy the serenity and rejuvenate in a sophisticated yet familiar environment. Treehotel gives people a chance to experience nature amongst the tree-tops, while also providing a uniquely designed housing experience.

Stockholm-based architects Tham + Videgard Hansson Arkitekter have designed a hotel hidden in the trees, located in Harads, Sweden. The 'treehouses' include a huge nest with a retractable staircase by Swedish designers Inrednin Gsgruppen; a mirrored glass box suspended round the trunk of a tree; a 20-ton treehouse by Finnish studio Rintala Eggertsson Architects; a tree-top hotel room by Swedish architects Cyrén & Cyrén, which is accessed via a bridge leading from the hilly forest to an entrance on the roof; and a charred-timber cabin by Snøhetta, which is raised 10 meters above the forest floor and feature a "stargazing net" to allow guests to watch out for the Northern Lights.

A very important part of their concept is to consider ecological values and make minimal environmental impact. For this reason, they devote considerable resources to finding sustainable construction and energy solutions.

Nay Palad Hideaway was designed by celebrated designers Jean-Marie Massaud and Daniel Pouzet, known for their organic minimalist creations. The idea was to nestle a villa style resort into a natural surrounding without negative influence on the natural habitat. Seamlessly integrated with the environment, the hideaway has been constructed by master Filipino craftsmen using only local materials.

Through showcasing these inspiring experiences, Bee+Hive aims to galvanize travelers beyond their trip, so they can spread awareness of sustainable travel after returning home. Founded by Bruno Correa, Bee+Hive's origins lie in his first-hand knowledge developing sustainable experiences.

Bee + Hive only promotes hotels and experiences that give back to the local environment. The association works closely with its members to develop unique travel experiences with sustainability at their core, including preserving and re-habilitating wildlife and ecology, ensuring viable socio-economic projects for the local community and protecting cultural expression.
