Congratulations to Preston McDonald on receiving the ATP Inspiring Future Leaders Scholarship this past spring at MCAA26 during the Awards of Excellence Breakfast in Phoenix.
ATP presented a $2,500 scholarship designed to recognize, support, and inspire students whose goal is to pursue a degree in the mechanical industry. Likewise, this scholarship supports individuals in attaining the knowledge and technical skills required for employment and advancement in the mechanical industry.
Preston anticipates graduating from Indiana State University in May 2027 with a degree in Construction Management. He has been a member of the student chapter at Indiana State University since 2023 and has served as the chapter’s vice president. This summer, Preston is interning with MCAA Member, Deig Bros. Lumber & Construction Company Inc.
“Mechanical construction appeals to me because it plays a crucial role in making buildings safe, comfortable, and operational. Through my involvement in MCAA and MCAI at ISU, I’ve gained firsthand exposure to mechanical systems and how they are estimated, coordinated, and installed. Working on a mechanical bid for our MCAA project has shown me how every component, from HVAC to piping, directly affects project performance and cost.
I enjoy how mechanical construction brings together both detailed planning and creative problem-solving. There’s strategy involved in pricing labor and materials, understanding equipment specifications, and evaluating the most efficient ways to complete a project. It’s a field where I get to apply logic and analytical skills, especially through estimating, which is something I’m passionate about.
What excites me most is that mechanical construction continues to advance with new technologies and smarter systems. Being part of an industry that improves building performance and enhances the way people live and work is something I find very motivating, and it’s a major reason why I want to build my career in this field.”
MCAA and the John R. Gentille Foundation congratulate Preston on this prestigious scholarship and thank ATP for their commitment to supporting students interested in pursuing a career in the mechanical contracting industry.
