Congratulations to Joe Robertson on being the first recipient of the Tyfoom "Become More" Scholarship, which was presented during the Awards of Excellence Breakfast at MCAA26 in Phoenix.

Tyfoom established a $5,000 scholarship to empower the next generation of leaders dedicated to improving culture, safety and engagement in the workplace. The Tyfoom “Become More” Scholarship reflects Tyfoom’s mission to help individuals become more and reach their potential – through consistent communication, training and accountability. This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to becoming better every day – continually striving to improve themselves, their teams, and the world around them.

Joe is anticipating on graduating from Ball State University in December 2027 with a degree in Construction Management and has been a member of his student chapter since 2024. This summer, he will be interning with MCAA Member, HMH Contractors.

“What I like most about mechanical construction is how it combines problem-solving with hands-on results. I enjoy learning how systems like heating, cooling, and plumbing all work together to make a building run efficiently. Every project is different, which keeps things interesting and gives me the chance to keep learning.

Through my experience with Ball State’s housing maintenance team and the MCAA Student Chapter Competition, I’ve seen how important mechanical systems are to comfort and energy use. I really enjoy being part of that process, from planning and estimating to seeing everything come together and work as it should.

After graduation, I see myself working as an assistant project manager or assistant project estimator in mechanical construction. I want to keep learning how different systems are designed, installed, and managed on real projects. This role will let me use what I’ve learned in estimating, scheduling, and project management while gaining hands-on experience from people in the industry.”

MCAA and the John R. Gentille Foundation congratulate Joe on this prestigious scholarship and thank Tyfoom for their commitment to supporting students interested in pursuing a career in the mechanical contracting industry.
