Report on Comments Toward Development of 2024 UPC, UMC Now Available for Online Download

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), developer of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC), has posted online the 2022 Report on Comments (ROC) for the 2024 editions of these American National Standard-designated model codes. The ROC includes the committee action as discussed during the May 2-5 technical committee meeting, the electronic ballot results as balloted between May 16 and June 10, and the Technical Correlating Committee action on all comments received for the 2024 editions.

One of the many benefits of the IAPMO consensus code development process is the ability for anyone and everyone to have a voice. On Sept. 13, during the association’s Annual Education and Business Conference, IAPMO will conduct the Association Technical Meeting Convention at the Sheraton Charlotte Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina, providing stakeholders the opportunity to advocate for their position on proposed changes.

Those wishing to make a motion must complete a comment form explaining their proposed motion modification from the Report on Proposals (ROP) or Report on Comments (ROC) to present to the Association Technical Meeting on that day. All comment forms must be received no later than 9 a.m. EDT Sept. 13. The comment form can be obtained HERE.

Motions at the Association Technical Meetings must be in accordance with Section 4-5.4 of the Regulations Governing Committee Projects.

IAPMO urges its members and other interested parties to get involved in the code development process to ensure effectiveness in preserving the public health, safety and welfare through fair and balanced development of its codes and standards. Installers, plumbing and mechanical officials, the construction industry, engineers, and manufacturers all benefit from a cooperative effort in developing codes. For questions about submitting comments for the UPC, contact Enrique Gonzalez at 909-230-5535 or enrique.gonzalez@iapmo.org. For questions about submitting comments for the UMC, contact Zalmie Hussein at 909-218-8122 or zalmie.hussein@iapmo.org.
