PRIER Encourages Businesses and Homeowners to Detach Hoses for Winter

Coinciding with National Checklist Day, PRIER Products encourages businesses and homeowners to detach hoses, nozzles, splitters, and timers for the winter season, Saturday, October 30, 2020.

Every year 250,000 families lose possessions and have their lives disrupted due to frozen pipes. Insurance companies paid out more than $4 billion in claims for frozen, burst pipes in the past decade, according to the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. The average insurance claim is $15,000. Insurance may not cover all damage claims.

Leaving a hose, splitter, nozzle or timer attached to the house during the winter creates the opportunity for the water to freeze in the line, thus resulting in a burst pipe and water damage. More than 250 gallons of water per day can flow out from just a one-eighth inch rupture. When the hose, splitter, nozzle, timer and other accessories are detached, the hose faucet will drain upon shutoff, and remain freeze-proof when not in use.

PRIER seeks to save homeowners and businesses from the hassle of flooded structures by sharing simple tips and sponsoring #DetachYourHoseDay.

The company will offer subject matter experts for in-studio, on-site and by-phone interviews throughout the week of October 25. For anyone who wants to forego the tips, PRIER's C-434 freezeless faucet will drain even with a hose attached.
