Until the 1960s, mechanical engineers and plumbing designers specified hub and spigot cast-iron soil pipe joined with lead and oakum for drain, waste and vent systems in the vast majority of their commercial projects.
The series of videos and print ads recognizes essential workers, particularly those in the plumbing industry, for the important work they do to protect the nation's infrastructure for safety and sanitation.
As part of the investigation, the U.S. Department of Commerce determined that Chinese exporters had undersold and subsidized cast iron soil pipe in the United States in a range of 250.6 to 345.2 percent less than fair value.
