Founded in 2011 as the manufacturing arm of Goff Pluming & Heating Co., which was established in 1976, Midwest Innovative Technologies, Inc. (MITI) offers patented solutions to an age-old plumbing problem – the replacement of frost-free hydrants. MITI’s Yard Hydrant Made Easy and Wall Hydrant Made Easy make easy work of plumbing jobs that traditionally required a great deal of excavation, demolition, time, labor, and frustration.

The Yard Hydrant Made Easy (YHME), patented in 2013, has provided return on investment and peace of mind to homes, farms, and campgrounds all over the U.S. The YHME is a casing system that is installed when replacing an existing standard yard hydrant or when installing a new hydrant. Once the YHME is installed, no excavation is required the next time the hydrant needs to be replaced. The labor and frustration of digging up and replacing a leaking yard hydrant is eliminated. This results in a great savings for the owner, especially when the hydrant is encased in concrete.

The YHME connects to standard ¾” yard hydrants and has a telescoping casing that allows for bury depths of 3’ to 7’. The key feature is its pitless adapter, a proven technology used for decades in water wells, which attaches to the hydrant and allows it to easily slide in or out. Consequently, no torque is applied to the water line, eliminating the need to excavate and the risk of piping damage. The YHME also employs a filtered drainage compartment to keep out dirt and improve drainage reliability. The overall result is quick and easy hydrant replacements with the added benefit of protecting the hydrant from soil corrosion.

Expanding upon this concept, MITI released their patented Wall Hydrant Made Easy (WHME) in March of 2019. The problem with wall hydrant replacements is that they commonly require multiple entries into a crawlspace or basement, demolition of an interior wall or basement ceiling, and piping modifications. If the hydrant is installed with a WHME, it can be replaced quickly and easily from outside the building. The WHME casing holds the water line securely in place and prevents torque from hydrant installation and removal from being transferred to the piping.

The WHME is compatible with ½” MIP wall hydrants of any length, and its adjustable mounting base allows for 1” of length variance between different brands and models. To further its versatility, the mounting base also features slotted screw holes for fastening the hydrant. An additional benefit is that if the hydrant ever ruptures, the WHME casing will direct the water away from the building through its drain port, protecting the property against flooding and water damage.

MITI founder Kevin Cantrell said, “Our products are wrought out of real-world grit, experience, and the hope of a better way, literally from the trenches. Our products put money back in the hands of owners and taxpayers by allowing hydrants to be replaced without excavation or demolition.”
