Geberit North America recently donated training materials to the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers’ Local Union 130 UA for the organization’s plumbing fixtures wet training lab in Joliet, Illinois, which provides hands-on instruction and practical training for plumbing apprentices.
The donation included 12 Geberit in-wall carriers plus consumables for 20 installations, as well as various replacement parts and accessories, including the new Cast Iron Waste Fitting 367.072.18.1 with a 2-inch heel outlet for venting, designed to reduce material and labor costs during installation. In addition to the donation to the Joliet school, Geberit previously donated six carriers plus consumables for 25 installations to Local Union 130’s school in Volo, Illinois.
Local Union 130’s Joint Apprenticeship Committee runs a comprehensive five-year plumbing apprenticeship program, which includes extensive on-the-job training and classroom training. The program aims to produce highly qualified plumbers who are able to succeed in handling the industry’s increasingly complex challenges.
“The generous donation from Geberit North America has facilitated the task of training with concealed water closet carriers and made it a much more practical, effective and valued hands-on experience,” said John Yock, Instructor for Local Union 130’s training program. “We have been able to transform our hands-on training into a much more substantial and meaningful experience for our program.”
