We are heading into the holidays, and it is a time to be grateful and cherish the ones around us. It can also be a difficult time for some.

During a particularly heavy time in my own life, I received two pieces of advice that really helped me. One was, “Ride it out.” Don’t bury your feelings, as that will just prolong your situation. Second, “No matter how hard things are right now, things WILL get better.” These two mantras have helped me so much over the years because they are true. I also believe they are reflected in so many of the stories we’ve had the privilege of sharing through RUGGED Mind and Body.

Looking back on our first two years of publication, it’s interesting to see how certain themes have emerged organically through our cover stories. Without intentionally planning it, our first year largely centered on the power of conversation — the importance of speaking up and checking in on one another. Again and again, we heard how a single conversation, a willingness to listen or simply knowing someone cared could make all the difference.

This past year, another theme emerged: addiction and recovery. Our cover subjects opened up about some of the darkest chapters of their lives, sharing deeply personal experiences with substance use and the difficult road to sobriety. While their journeys were far from identical, each reinforced a message that I believe everyone needs to hear: No matter how far down you may find yourself, there is always the possibility of a better tomorrow.

As we close out another year of RUGGED Mind and Body, I’m reminded that none of this would be possible without the people who believe in our mission and help bring it to life. First, to our cover subjects, thank you for trusting us with your stories. To our contributors, thank you for lending your expertise and perspectives to our publication. To our readers, thank you for spreading the word about RUGGED, attending our in-person events and continuing to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and wellness in the trades.

And to our 2026 sponsors — Cintas, Watts Water Technologies, AERCO International, Bradley Corp., Charlotte Pipe, F.W. Webb, Legend Valve, Liberty Pumps, Matco-Norca and U.S. Boiler Co.—  thank you for believing in what we’re building and providing the support that allows us to keep these conversations going.

Together, we’re creating, educating and advocating for the people who power our industry. Here’s to another year of sharing stories, starting conversations and reminding each other that, no matter how difficult life gets, better days are always worth believing in.

Until next time, STAY RUGGED!
