Resilience looks different for everyone, but throughout the trades industry, there are professionals whose perseverance through adversity leaves a lasting impact on those around them.
Our latest RUGGED Resilience spotlight recognizes Marty Hardon, president of Hardon's, Inc. in Tama, Iowa. His journey is a testament to the determination, grit and strength that define the trades.
After spending 13 years with HVAC manufacturer Lennox, Hardon returned to his family's business in 2005 and purchased the company from his father in 2007. Since then, he has continued building on his family's legacy while serving customers with the hard work, integrity and commitment that have long defined the company.
In 2023, Hardon was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After completing treatment in 2024 and ringing the bell to celebrate the end of his cancer journey, he is grateful to be cancer free. That experience became a turning point, inspiring him to prioritize his health through better nutrition, consistent exercise and lasting lifestyle changes. Today, Hardon has lost nearly 90 pounds and works out five to seven days a week.
This year, he has set another meaningful goal: completing five 5K races alongside his 14-year-old daughter, proving that resilience extends far beyond overcoming adversity. It is about embracing each new chapter with purpose, discipline and gratitude.
Congratulations, Marty — and STAY RUGGED!
