Those seeking to earn the Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) credential in 2026 can take the exam via remote proctor from April 13–24, 2026.

To be eligible, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Hold full ASPE membership or have previously received approval to sit for the exam, or

  • Have at least four years of experience in a position of responsibility for plumbing system design and a baccalaureate degree in a field related to engineering.

In lieu of a degree, candidates may substitute up to an additional four years of practical design experience, for a total of eight years. They may also receive credit of one-half year of practical experience for each full year of education in an accredited plumbing engineering curriculum. CPDT certification counts toward one year of experience.

All potential candidates must submit the CPD Eligibility Form by April 1, 2026, to be approved to sit for the exam. An ASPE Education account is required to submit the form.
