IAPMO Conference

IAPMO’s 87th Annual Education and Business Conference will take place on Sept 26 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Attendees will once again have the opportunity to register for educational courses covering the latest information related to the plumbing and mechanical trades, and earn continuing education units (CEU) associated with them. Take a look at the full list of courses available.

Generating a lot of buzz this year, the interactive UPC/UMC Workshops taking place on Wednesday, Sept. 28, will offer an opportunity for participants to test their code knowledge and learn from their peers.

There will be three full days of education and training available, in addition to fun and engaging networking opportunities. The conference has become one of the yearly high points for inspectors, installers, design professionals and manufacturers to get together, exchange ideas and participate in industry growth.

Not only will attendees have the opportunity to network with some of the industry’s most influential people, but they also can share their concerns and voices as they review, debate and vote on proposed code changes to the 2018 UPC and UMC.

“The member’s and attendee’s big benefit this year is that they have a voice and a vote in how the Uniform Codes are transformed with the new technologies that are included in the model code,” said Duane Huisken, senior vice president of marketing and communications at The IAPMO Group.

This year’s keynote speaker, George McGraw, founder and executive director of DIGDEEP, will discuss his work to bring clean, running water to American families who don't have it.

“While we invest millions in water projects abroad, most Americans don't know that millions of people right here in the U.S. still don't have clean, running water,”  McGraw stressed. He added that DIGDEEP is the only global water organization working here in the U.S., primarily on the Navajo Nation in Arizona and New Mexico.

With so much to see and do, attendees want to make sure they plan early and cover as much ground as they can. Also, they should remember to have their smart devices handy, as the organization will place a heavy emphasis on social media interaction this year.

“We hope that the attendees take away a confirmation that they are part of the process of Uniform Code writing, and that they see the strength and health of their organization,” Huisken added.
