This January, ASA and its regional affiliates will collaborate with other industrial distribution associations to conduct a comprehensive executive and employee compensation survey, including a volume especially for the PHCP-PVF wholesaler-distribution channel. The final report will be released in early spring 2020.
The 2018 study analyzed data of 1,037 different wholesale-distribution firms from across the United States, including the PHCP-PVF wholesaler-distribution channel, with a combined total of more than 9,500 locations. The final report provided a detailed look at compensation and benefits programs across different sales volume categories as well as nearly 100 different geographic and metro market areas. The report was also available in an online searchable results application which helped users to navigate, filter and view the data according to their specific needs.
The study is free for members who participate. It will help companies in knowing whether they are paying their employees fairly, which will in turn help reduce employee turnover and retain good talent. Research indicates that losing an employee can cost employers between 30-40 percent of an hourly employee’s earnings, 150 percent for salaried employees, and as high as 400 percent for high level positions/top performers. Furthermore, having reputable information at hand during salary discussions can aid in salary negotiation.
For those who expect their company will be competitive when attracting and retaining the best employees among all of the wholesaler-distributors in a given market area, including PHCP-PVF, the value from participating in this survey and report is clear. Data collection will begin in early January, and all participating wholesaler-distributor members will receive a copy of the final report in exchange for having completed the survey questionnaire.
The American Supply Association is the national association for full-service wholesaler-distributors and their suppliers of plumbing-heating-cooling-piping and industrial pipe-valve-fitting products and related services.
