SCAQMD created the California mandate to reduce nitrogen oxide in natural gas-fired, fan-type central furnaces from 40 nanograms per joule to 14 nanograms per joule.

The five-year alliance will focus on hazards of particular concern to women in the construction industry, including personal protective equipment selection, sanitation, and workplace intimidation and violence.

Chaney's one-year term began on Jan. 1.

However, one possible argument against the standard remains, which could be used in particular by the construction industry.
