ASPE to Hold Designing PEX Plumbing Systems Webinar

The American Society of Plumbing Engineers will hold a one-hour webinar on Designing PEX Plumbing Systems, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. EST.

Sponsored by the Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc., the webinar is based on PPI’s “Design Guide: PEX Water Supply Plumbing Systems” (2013), and will demonstrate how the properties of PEX systems can improve the health, safety and welfare of building occupants through reliable long-term delivery of clean water and provides design guidance to optimize performance.

Presenter Lance MacNevin, P.E., director of engineering for PPI's Building and Construction Division, will explain piping design methods that can provide faster delivery of hot-water to fixtures, improve overall system efficiency, optimize use of materials, and improve installation efficiency.

Content Outline:

  • Properties of PEX tubing and fitting systems.
  • Plumbing layouts using PEX systems, advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • Improving system performance through design.
  • Installation techniques for PEX systems.
  • Industry resources for design and installation questions.

Learning Objectives include:

  • Explain how the properties of PEX tubing and fittings can improve health, safety and welfare through improved plumbing materials.
  • Describe three distinct plumbing layouts using PEX systems and compare advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • Apply test data from published research to demonstrate how design of the plumbing layout can improve system performance and provide faster delivery of hot-water with reduced water waste.
  • Direct an installer on correct installation techniques for PEX systems to ensure long-term safety and performance.
  • Discuss how to access industry resources for design and installation questions.

The webinar is free for ASPE members. The contact program awards 0.1 CEU or 1.0 PHD credits. There is a $130 fee for non-ASPE members. Registration closes Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. EST.
