Johnson Controls Launches Next Chapter for Women

January 1, 2017

Company starts new program to help place women in engineering and technology positions re-enter the workforce.

Johnson Controls, a building and energy storage solutions and technologies company, recently introduced the “Next Chapter” program, which has employment opportunities for women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields who are returning to the workforce after a 2- or more-year break in their careers.

The Next Chapter program is an extension of a larger STEM Re-entry Task Force initiative driven by the Society of Women Engineers and iRelaunch, a career re-entry firm, to increase the STEM talent pipeline.

Women selected for the Next Chapter program receive an 8-week “experienced on boarding” process, which is customized to each individual. In addition to serving as part of a project team, participants receive training to close any knowledge gaps, are exposed to networking opportunities and receive a dedicated coach/mentor.

“Our industry has faced challenges in attracting and retaining women in STEM positions. Johnson Controls is in a unique position to drive change in this area,” said Linda Chapin, vice president human resources, Buildings Technologies & Solutions, Johnson Controls. “Our Next Chapter program is an important step toward this transformation.”

Successful candidates will be able to draw on a support system led by the Women’s Resource Network. This network is a business resource group that harnesses the power, influence and intelligence of Johnson Controls women employees to establish a community that fosters professional development and mentoring.
