The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) continues its bi-monthly webinar series, Mastering HVAC Excellence, with an upcoming session dedicated to exploring the complexities of the 2024 Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC).
Titled “Chapter 11 Refrigeration Review and Code Updates,” the webinar will take place on March 20, 2026, from 1:00–2:30 p.m. EST. The session is designed to provide HVAC professionals with comprehensive insights into one of the most critical areas of the updated code.
The course will be led by instructor Austin Jones, an experienced trades professional and educator specializing in HVACR and code-related continuing education. Participants will receive an IAPMO certificate upon completion. Registration is priced at $53 for members and $71 for non-members.
The webinar will cover the most impactful changes introduced in Chapter 11 of the 2024 UMC, including key differences between A2L refrigerants and their A1 and A2 classifications, along with associated safety characteristics and system implications. Attendees will also gain an in-depth understanding of A2L refrigerant handling, storage, installation, and servicing requirements.
In addition, the session will reference ASHRAE Standards 15 and 34 to further expand on the regulatory framework and ensure alignment with Chapter 11 provisions. Essential engineering calculations related to refrigerant safety will also be addressed, including volumetric concentration, machinery room ventilation requirements, and refrigerant charge limitations.
Jones brings nearly a decade of field experience in the mechanical and plumbing trades, having begun his career in 2016 before transitioning into full-time instruction at Local Union 441. He holds a Mechanical Master’s license, ASSE 5110 Backflow Tester certification, and a Medical Gas Installer license. Outside the classroom, he enjoys golfing and bowling with his wife.
Professionals interested in advancing their understanding of refrigeration code updates and HVAC safety practices are encouraged to register for this informative session.
