The Winsupply Family of Companies has welcomed its latest addition of a new Local Company with the opening of Winsupply of Clayton.
At the helm is experienced Winsupply Local Company President Brendan Recchia. This is the fourth Winsupply Local Company that Recchia has led.
Serving the Plumbing and HVAC industries, Winsupply Clayton NC is operating out of 18,000 square feet at 61 Harvest Mill Lane, Unit B, Clayton, NC 27520. The company officially opened its doors at the end of November, but will plan a grand opening celebration for the spring.
After leaving the Army in 2013, Recchia was recruited through a national recruiting firm as part of a Winsupply JMO (Junior Military Officer) and MIT (Manager in Training) Program.
Before landing at Winsupply, Recchia had considered about a dozen possible jobs, such as pharmaceutical or tech sales and operations. But something clicked once he heard about Winsupply’s business model and opportunities.
“The goal from day one was to become a president/owner,” Recchia said.
Recchia has seven employees at the Clayton location, but is hiring for additional roles in warehouse, inside sales, and counter sales.
His current team includes:
● Colby Winakor (Operations, Inside Sales)
● Jay Williams (Driver, Warehouse)
● Robin Johnson (Counter Sales, Warehouse)
● Zach Pittman (Outside Sales)
● Brian Friend (Manager)
● Kevin Upchurch (Outside Sales)
● Richard Harley (Warehouse)
Winsupply’s presence in North Carolina spans about 20 locations — across most wholesale construction segments. The state has over 11 million residents and, in 2024, saw the fourth largest gains in U.S. population — after Texas, Florida, and California, according to Census data.
The Raleigh metropolitan area — which encompasses over 1.6 million people — is a growth market for Winsupply in the Plumbing and HVAC industries.
“This will provide much-needed growth in the large Raleigh market,” said Area Leader Rob McCullough. “We have had only one plumbing location for years there (in Wake Forest), and this will help gain strength for both Local Companies.”
Winsupply is already preparing future local companies in North Carolina to complement existing Plumbing and Electrical locations.
“There are lots of opportunities in this market for the next five to 10 years,” Recchia said.
McCullough said when he’s out recruiting and looking for future entrepreneurs to run local companies, he talks about the unique business model and supportive services at Winsupply.
“It always comes down to our culture and autonomy; the local decision making,” McCullough said.
Recchia said unlike a franchise-franchisee model — full of expectations and rules to follow — Winsupply Local Company Presidents enjoy an equity partnership model where presidents can each institute their own employee culture, sales tactics, pricing measures, and countless other business decisions.
“It allows me the ability to make employee decisions and lead the way I should lead and how my employees need to be led,” Recchia said. “An added benefit is you get equity.”
Not having a traditional background in entrepreneurship, Recchia said Winsupply’s robust training department and support services for entrepreneurs were instrumental in preparing him to run his own business.
Recchia’s career at Winsupply has spanned several successful presidencies across the U.S.:
● President of Savannah Winsupply (Georgia) - Mid-2014 to Spring 2018
● President of Manchester Winsupply (Connecticut) - Spring 2018 to January 2021
● President of Winsupply Wakefield (acquisition of former Avon Supply) (Massachusetts) -
February 2021 to March 2025
“Brendan is uniquely qualified to take on a new start … he has run an underperforming company, run and helped grow a successful company, and lastly run and helped grow an acquisition company,” McCullough said. “All of these required different leadership styles to achieve success.”
