Throughout the rest of 2024, PHCPPros will be rolling out a series of spotlights on our team members who make our company possible. In our latest spotlight, we invite you to meet Amalia Deligiannis, Editor of Plumbing Engineer magazine!
How did you enter the PHCP industry?
Short answer: Word of mouth. When my predecessor Bob Mader passed away unexpectedly in 2021, a friend sent out a mention about the job opportunity, so I applied and ultimately got the job. I had never worked in the industry before joining PHCPPros, but I have worked for an array of trade publications and non-profits over the years.
What are your responsibilities in your role at PHCPPros?
As Editor of Plumbing Engineer, I coordinate and secure all content for the publication. I also write a monthly column and contribute articles throughout the year. Beyond that, I travel to industry trade shows and conferences to learn about the latest technologies and trends; visit manufacturers to learn more about their products; and meet up with engineers who have or want to share their knowledge with Plumbing Engineer.
What do you like most about working in our industry?
The people!
What are your favorite hobbies or interests outside of work?
I have two teenagers, so you can often find me at their games or events. Beyond that, I serve as VP for the Philoptochos chapter (friends of the poor) of my church, and we fundraise and do outreach to help the poor. I also enjoy gardening, traveling, going to concerts and the theatre.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given to you that you would pass onto others?
Keep on learning and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
