SFPE Annual Conference & Expo to be Held in Detroit

June 1, 2022
SFPE Annual Conference & Expo to be Held in Detroit

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the world’s leading professional society for fire protection and fire safety engineering, announces its 2022 Annual Conference & Expo will be held in Detroit, from Oct. 12-14. The SFPE Annual Conference & Expo is the place where fire protection engineers and fire safety professionals come together to learn, to network, to engage, and to be inspired.

The conference will feature 60-plus presentations structured around the topics of fire dynamics, building design, resilience, sustainability, forensics, human behavior, fire safety/systems, fire service, research, human behavior, and evacuation modeling. The opening keynote will feature Adam K. Thiel, Fire Commissioner of the Philadelphia Fire Department, along with general sessions on mitigating fire hazards and bridging the gap between fire protection engineers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).  A panel discussion on expectations and practices of delegated fire protection engineering, student poster presentations, a series of rapid-fire IGNITE sessions, and sessions specifically prepared for AHJs will also be featured.

"I’ve been attending the SFPE Annual Conference & Expo since I became a member in the 1990s, and I can say – without a doubt – that this event is the best place for fire protection engineers to learn about fire dynamics, fire research, industry innovation, and so much more,” stated Beth Tubbs, PE, FSFPE, president of SFPE and conference chair. “Not only is the conference a chance to be immersed in best-in-class learning, but attendees also have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits while discovering how peers from around the world deal with similar engineering challenges.”

“When looking to build professional connections, there is no better place to meet, to talk with, and to learn from the brightest and most creative fire protection engineers,” continued Rose West, PE, president of the SFPE Michigan Chapter and conference co-chair. “Plus, all of the top companies in fire safety and fire protection will be here showcasing their newest technologies and engineering solutions.”

The conference will provide additional value to attendees through a three-day exposition featuring 70 companies proudly showcasing their products and offerings.  The SFPE Annual Conference & Expo is generously sponsored by Johnson Controls and Siemens, with additional sponsor support from Armstrong Fluid Technology, Coffman Engineers, DITEK Corporation, Hydratec, HyperSpike, the International Code Council, Jensen Hughes, Kennedy Valve, M.C.Dean, Potter Electric Signal, Viking Group, and Wagner Fire Safety.

SFPE will also host several two- and three-day pre-conference seminars on October 10-12. These seminars require an additional registration fee and are open to both conference attendees and those not attending. Topics include the following:

  • Introduction to Fire Dynamics Simulator and Smokeview;
    • Introduction to Industrial Fire Protection;
    • Application of Fire Risk Assessment;
    • Advanced Fire-Alarm System Design: Applying the Principles of Performance-Based Design;
    • Principles of Fire Protection Engineering; and
    • Sprinkler Design for Engineers.

Make plans to join your peers as the global fire protection and fire safety engineering community convenes at the SFPE Annual Conference & Expo. To learn more and to register, call 301-718-2910, or visit sfpe.org/annual22.
