IAPMO Seeks Water Demand Calculator Task Group Members

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) is accepting applications from technical experts to participate on a task group whose goal is to expand the Water Demand Calculator from residential buildings into such types as hospitals, offices, hotels and schools.

IAPMO's Water Demand Calculator, which estimates peak water demand in residential buildings, first appeared in the appendices of the 2018 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and the 2017 Water Efficiency and Sanitation Standard (WE•Stand), both of which are published as American National Standards.

The task group will look to manufacturers and building owners for the collection of statistical data for the frequency of fixture use (p-value) for different types of fixtures during peak time in commercial buildings; collaborate with engineers and building owners to survey occupant load, peak periods of fixture use, fixture counts and types inside buildings, and fixture flow rates; and develop a broader network to come up with solutions and identify opportunities to overcome roadblocks.

Task group members will participate via conference call or web meeting, provide their perspective on the code, and assist in drafting recommendations for action by the UPC Technical Committee. Applicants are not required to be members of the UPC Technical Committee. It is anticipated that all meetings will be virtual, but if travel is required, meetings would be held at IAPMO World Headquarters (West) in Ontario, California.

Those interested in participating on the Water Demand Calculator Task Group may apply at the following URL: https://forms.iapmo.org/iapmo/committee/app_innovation_taskgroup.aspx. The deadline to apply is Dec. 31.

Interested individuals may contact IAPMO Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Christoph Lohr at 909-731-0219, or by email at christoph.lohr@iapmo.org.
