Construction Financial Management Association Establishes Alliance to Prevent Suicide

As the movement to build a zero-suicide industry grows, key industry organizations have pledged their support through joining the alliance.

In the wake of a recent Center for Disease Control report that showed construction is one of the most at-risk industries for suicide, the Construction Financial Management Association established the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention, with the goal of providing and disseminating information and resources for suicide prevention and mental health promotion in construction.

As the movement to build a zero-suicide industry grows, key industry organizations have pledged their support through joining the alliance. The first organization to join, the National Association of Surety Bond Producers, immediately recognized the importance of this initiative.

NASBP CEO Mark McCallum said, "The larger conversation around suicide prevention in the construction industry has taken a tremendous leap forward with the formation of CFMA's Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention. On behalf of our membership of surety bond producers and allied professionals, I'm proud of NASBP's decision to commit to this cause, as demonstrated by joining the Alliance and supporting and participating in efforts to raise awareness of this critical issue."

CFMA is pleased to announce the newest Alliance members, including: Associated Builders and Contractors; Associated General Contractors of America; Construction Industry CPAs and Consultants; Mechanical Contractors Association of America; and National Association of Women in Construction.

CFMA President and CEO Stuart Binstock added, “We applaud these organizations for recognizing the significance of the Alliance’s mission, and appreciate their efforts to help shape the construction industry through promoting the safety and well-being of their members’ most important asset – human capital.  CFMA is proud to be at the forefront of this important initiative.”

Binstock also noted, “The organizations mentioned represent a significant portion of the construction industry, but given this initiative is less than a month old we are confident that a number of other construction industry associations will soon join the Alliance.”
