National Institute of Building Sciences Board Installs New Board Chair and Officers

The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Board of Directors voted to approve the installation of four new officers on April 6. They include the following:

  • Carl Hedde, chair – head of insurance practice at One Concern
  • James Timberlake, vice chair – founding partner with KieranTimberlake
  • Thomas Phoenix, treasurer – principal with CPL Architects and Engineers
  • Thomas Izbicki, secretary – operations manager at Rolf Jensen & Associates Inc.

"The work of our board members is crucial," said Lakisha A. Woods, CAE, president and CEO of NIBS. "We are convening agencies and groups across the building industry to lead discussions about the current and future impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on the built environment. We recognize the challenges we face are at every level – local, state, and federal."

NIBS has 21 board members, six of whom are appointed by the president of the United States.

Hedde said he looks forward to working closely with the NIBS staff, its members, and the dedicated board that surrounds the organization: "NIBS is an industry icon that brings so many important partners to the table. It's an honor to help lead the organization and the work that it performs on behalf of the nation's building industry."

The first order of business will involve a virtual town hall with individuals from different sectors of the built environment to discuss industry needs as they relate to COVID-19. NIBS particularly would like to focus on maintaining health and safety for the repopulation of commercial workspaces.

The board also plans to approve a new building industry COVID-19 portal to serve members of the public and private sector. Details around this effort will be announced soon. For more information about the NIBS board of directors, visit www.nibs.org/page/board.
