ASA Asks the President and Congress to Classify PHCP-PVF Industry Essential

March 23, 2020

2020 PHCC Legislative Conference Canceled

Thus far, more than 1,400 employees of American Supply Association (ASA) member companies have visited the ASA Take Action page on the ASA website (www.asa.net) and have sent more than 5,500 emails to President Trump, their U.S. senators and local congressmen in support of declaring the PHCP-PVF industry essential.

As businesses face mounting challenges across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, government response has been starkly different at the federal, state and local levels, ASA noted. Since March 21, ASA has been working on behalf of its ASA members (and with its coalition allies) to establish what it means to be an “essential business” during this crisis. In many areas, it has been a patchwork of regulations that can vary by state, county and municipality.

As a result, ASA took swift action to protect the PHCP and PVF channel during the pandemic. The association is taking further steps to encourage states to include the PHCP-PVF industry on their essential business lists.

However, given the small window of time available to complete this, ASA requests its members and their employees to help in this endeavor.

“We asked that our members send a message to the White House, requesting a national standard for which industries qualify as ‘essential’ during this emergency,” ASA CEO Mike Adelizzi said. “Decision- makers at the federal level heard that the PHCP & PVF channel is crucial to our infrastructure, as well as the health and safety of citizens across the country, and have included our industry in the federal guidelines of essential businesses."

ASA asks those who have not sent an email yet to visit the link below to send a message and encourage their employees to do so as well: https://bit.ly/33GpicR.

Also, ASA encourages member companies and their employees to visit the special ASA COVID-19 Resource Center at www.asa.net/COVID-19-Resources, which has a host of relevant articles, best practices tips and general ASA updates to help through these challenging times.
