PPI Announces New Stormwater Drainage Handbook

February 18, 2020
PPI Announces New Stormwater Drainage Handbook

The Plastics Pipe Institute Inc. (PPI) has announced the publication of its Corrugated Plastic Pipe Drainage Handbook: "21st Century Drainage Solutions." Available for free download on the PPI website at the association’s Drainage Division section, it consists of 11 chapters containing extensive technical information and guidance. PPI is the major North American trade association representing all segments of the plastic pipe industry.

“This is the most complete manual the industry has ever seen,” said Daniel Currence, P.E., director of engineering for the PPI Drainage Division. “The PPI members developed this Handbook using the leading technical experts from industry, academia and consulting engineering.  The collection, vetting and editing of the Handbook took many years to thoroughly provide the valuable content needed by those designing, installing and using corrugated plastic pipe for stormwater drainage.  What we’ve brought together is a first for the corrugated plastic pipe industry, and it’s a remarkable resource for Departments of Transportation, design engineers, contractors and users wanting sustainable, resilient, and cost-effective drainage solutions.”

The handbook includes the PPI Design Guide that will provide a step-by-step path for design engineers based upon the complex LRFD Bridge Design process established by AASHTO for corrugated plastic pipe. A print edition is expected to be available for sale later in 2020.

“This is truly a remarkable endeavor with such a wealth of information for the industry,” said David Fink, president of PPI. “For more than 60 years, PPI’s charter has been to offer technical support to the plastics piping industry.  This drainage handbook is an excellent representation of fulfilling that mandate.  We are very proud of the PPI Drainage Division’s efforts in developing this resource for the industry.”
