Original water pump gauge from Empire State Building to be auctioned on eBay

Brian Purcell, was foreman on the 1980s plumbing retrofit of the building’s water pump room, and received the gauge from the engineering department as a memento.

Andre & Veronika’s Antiques & Collectibles will auctioning a water pump gauge that was part of the original plumbing system from the Empire State Building.

The item will go on a seven-day eBay auction, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. EST.

The item comes to market from its owner, Brian Purcell, who was foreman on the 1980s plumbing retrofit of the building’s water pump room. Purcell receives the gauge from the engineering department as a memento. The gauge was from Pump No. 5, which used to pump water to the very top floor of the building.

According to the auctioneer, the gauge was manufactured by Manning, Maxwell and Moore Inc. trading as “Ashcroft,” an American Company founded in the 1850's. The he Ashcroft logo is on the face of the dial.
