Plumbers Without Borders (PWB), a non-profit started in 2010 “by plumbers for plumbers” represents the open heart of plumbers around the world. Inspired by the unsung heroes who jumped into action after the catastrophic Haiti earthquake in 2010, Plumbers Without Borders has evolved into a network of more than a thousand volunteer plumbers globally.

PWB connects volunteer plumbers with projects and organizations that are committed to improving lives by increasing access to safe water and sanitation. PWB is largely supported by the generosity of plumbing industry leaders, who in addition to offering their financial support, may also wish to engage their employees and customers with projects that can benefit from their skills and/or products. PWB works to bring together the abundant resources within the industry toward increasing global health and advancing development in regions or communities suffering from water and sanitation poverty. A constant advocate for plumbing education, PWB emphasizes the link between plumbing and health as the critical underpinning for community health. Increasing economic opportunities, improving lives, gaining new skills, achieving gender equality and growing the plumbing industry are all critical to the foundation for building a healthy community.

In 2018, in addition to several international endeavors, PWB successfully mobilized the collective partnership of volunteer UA plumbers, electricians and manufacturers converging to help rebuild a local community outreach center in Flint, Michigan. PWB also recently worked with International Rescue Committee and World Relief Organization to coordinate dozens of volunteer plumbers installing rainwater harvesting and aquaponics systems for community gardens serving low-income immigrant and refugee residents in Phoenix, Arizona and Seattle, Washington. PWB’s staff draws on their lifetimes of professional contacts, leveraging industry knowledge and relationships to create opportunities for collaborative success. PWB welcomes all tradespersons and industry members to join this global effort.
