Fourth generation joins General Pipe Cleaners

August 31, 2015
No Comments
A fourth generation of family members has joined General Pipe Cleaners team. Nine high school and college age children – all great-grandchildren of General founder Abe Silverman – were working this summer at General.

Second generation Art Silverman (known as Pop-Pop to his grandchildren) stands in the middle of his sons and grandsons, from L to R, Jeff’s sons Abe (named for General Pipe Cleaners founder Abe Silverman) and Mendel, David’s sons Ethan, Jacob and Ari, Mike’s sons Korey and Wyatt, and Bob’s sons Gabe and Isaac

“And, believe it or not, that’s not all the kids in Abe’s fourth generation!” says Marty Silverman, vice president of marketing.

It’s part of an 85-year industry legacy.  Over 40 percent of General’s work force remains multigenerational – with children often working side-by-side with parents and even grandparents.

General products have also remained “preferred brands” for generations of plumbing and drain cleaning professionals.  Company history boast numerous instances of grandfathers, fathers and sons relying on respected equipment like the Handylectric®, Super-Vee®, Sewermatic™ and Speedrooter® cable drain cleaning machines.

Marty Silverman notes that’s because customers trust tough, reliable General equipment to enhance profitability.

“Some individual machines have even served their owners for two or three decades,” Marty adds. “Even the company’s independent manufacturers representatives reflects multiple generations representing General tools.”

General Pipe Cleaners, a division of General Wire Spring Co., is a leading manufacturer of high quality American-made drain cleaning equipment. In business since 1930, the third generation (make that fourth generation) family-owned company is celebrating 85 years of service to drain cleaning professionals and plumbing contractors, as well as facilities managers, the rental industry and the hardware/DIY  market.  The Toughest Tools Down The Line.
