The American Society of Plumbing Engineers is pleased to announce that 10-time Major League Baseball All-Star Steve Garvey will present the keynote address at the 2016 ASPE Convention & Exposition, the year’s biggest professional development event for plumbing system designers, engineers, specifiers, contractors, installers, inspectors, and code officials, which is being held Oct. 28 to Nov. 2 in Phoenix.

Garvey will be speaking just prior to the opening of the Exposition on Monday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. at the Phoenix Convention Center, and all attendees are invited to his address.

Nicknamed the Iron Man for setting the National League consecutive games record, Garvey is one of the top athlete speakers in the sports industry. During his 16 seasons playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, Garvey was the 1974 National League MVP, a two-time NLCS MVP, and a two-time All-Star Game MVP, and he won the Gold Glove four times. In 1981, Garvey helped the Dodgers win their first World Series Championship since 1965. While he was with the Padres, Garvey became the only player in the history of the MLB to have an errorless season at first base. His No. 6 was retired by the Padres in 1988.

Off the field, Garvey is a well-known philanthropist. He has received the Roberto Clemente Award, MLB’s highest honor for humanitarian service, and the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award. He succeeded Frank Sinatra as the National Campaign Chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and he assists in a variety of other causes including the Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Blind Children Center, Sisters of Carondelet, United Way, Ronald McDonald House, St. Vincent DePaul Center, Pediatrics AIDS, and Starlight Foundation. Steve also holds positions on numerous civic committees and corporate boards such as the Catholic University of America, University of San Diego, and Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.

Today, Garvey is a well-known corporate marketing executive and motivational speaker. He has spoken to groups, corporations, conventions, and universities around the world on topics including Being the Best You Can Be, Teamwork, Crisis Management, Leadership, Integrity in Life and Business, and The Rewards of Living a Christian Life.

All attendees to the 2016 ASPE Convention & Exposition will benefit from Steve’s inspirational keynote address. Registration for the event is now open at aspe.org/expo, and several registration options are available. The two-day Exposition on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, including the keynote address, prize drawings, exhibitor hospitality events, a lunch voucher, and education sessions in the New Product Innovation Theater, is free. For a fee, attendees can take part in the entire Convention from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2, which, in addition to the Exposition, also includes a kickoff party at the Corona Ranch and Rodeo Grounds, the closing cocktail party and banquet, technical education sessions, and continuing education credit.
