Hurricane Melissa has made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph and even stronger gusts. The organization notes that subsequent threats to Southeastern Cuba, the Bahamas, Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos Islands also exist. World Vision urges the public to help by donating today.

In Jamaica, World Vision is responding through trusted partners, shipping truckloads of urgently needed supplies from its storehouses, including flood buckets, generators, hygiene kits, tarps, and more.

Meanwhile, Haiti, one of the world’s most vulnerable countries, is already facing intense rainfall and flooding, with homes and roads destroyed and landslides likely in coastal and mountainous areas. Nearly 5 million people — half of them children — are at risk of severe hunger. World Vision says its teams and partners are distributing prepositioned relief supplies to thousands of households. The organization is also supporting children and families in the Dominican Republic.

World Vision says individuals can help with this response and others by donating product, including the following:

  • Flood Clean Up Buckets
  • Generators
  • Hygiene Kits
  • Tarps
  • Emergency Items
