REHAU Publishes 2021 Sustainability Report

REHAU Publishes 2021 Sustainability Report

REHAU has published its sustainability report for the year 2021. In it, the values and sustainability activities of the two newly established subgroups REHAU Industries and REHAU Automotive are depicted and the progress and targets are presented. The international guidelines for sustainability reporting, the Global Reporting Guidelines (GRI), serve as the basis for reporting.

Based on the core elements of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, the REHAU Group has defined four fields of action in its sustainability strategy: Sustainable Growth, Circular Economy, Climate Protection and Diversity. Since 2011, the corporate group has regularly reported on its commitment to sustainability. The report now published is REHAU's seventh sustainability report. "We are particularly pleased that we managed to take further decisive steps based on our sustainability strategy last year. Meeting targets makes us proud and spurs us on even more," says Dr. Uwe H. Böhlke, CEO REHAU Industries SE & Co. KG.

The current report shows that notable progress has already been made. The goal of driving the circular economy and increasing the recycling rate to more than 15 percent by 2025 compared to the 2016 fiscal year has already been achieved. The target to reduce CO2 emissions by 30 percent compared to the base year 2018 was also met in 2021. In the reporting year, REHAU began to develop holistic tools for evaluating progress in this field of action. Among other things, this has resulted in the REHAU Circular Scorecard, which comprises 12 categories in the areas of energy, product, production and society. With the Circular Scorecard, existing products can be reviewed and further developed in terms of sustainability.

REHAU sees the further development of its sustainability targets and indicators as a continuous process. For this reason, the 2021 climate protection target was adjusted for both subgroups. "REHAU Automotive has decided not only to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 as planned, but to be 100 percent CO2 neutral by then," says Dr. Markus Distelhoff, CEO REHAU Automotive SE & Co. KG. REHAU Industries has set itself this target for Scope 2 emissions. At the same time, further projects are started at product and company levels to evaluate upstream and downstream emissions (Scope 3). In this way, REHAU would like to create the conditions for determining CO2 reduction targets on a scientific basis in the future. https://www.rehau.com/group-en/planet-first
