PHCPPros recently launched a new rep agency specifically for brand ambassadors in the PHCP community, PROS REPS. Our clients include highly skilled and influential professionals who showcase their profession, love of the trades, and the products they use and install to their thousands of social media followers.
PROS REPS Ambassador Omar Harris is based in Florida and says one of the most rewarding aspects of being a plumber is seeing a customer’s smile after his work is done. He is also a certified HVAC technician and Certified Fire Inspector for the state. Omar has amassed more than 70,000 followers across his Facebook and Instagram pages under the handle @omartheplumber. Read our Q&A to learn more about his journey to the trades and the advice he has for both fellow and aspiring tradespeople!
PHCPPros: How did you enter a career in the trades?
Harris: I lost my job and was searching for a career that could provide long-term financial support for my family.
PHCPPros: What is your specialty within the trades?
Harris: Drain cleaning. You make more money doing drain cleaning because you do not have to pay for parts and material. Straight labor.
PHCPPros: Why did you decide to start using social media to share what you do with the world at large?
Harris: I just wanted the world to see my creativity and craftsmanship.
PHCPPros: What is your favorite type of content to share with your followers? What gets the most engagement?
Harris: My favorite content to share includes waterline repairs and removing stoppages from drain lines.
PHCPPros: What kind of advice would you give to people in the industry who may want to do something similar to you on social media?
Harris: It does not happen overnight. Post content three days out of the week. And pictures of your work every other day.
PHCPPros: How do you think the industry can use social media as a tool to encourage the next generation to join the trades?
Harris: The next generation is on social media, and that’s where you will grab their attention and inspire them to enter the trades.
PHCPPros: What kind of advice would you give people who are looking to enter the trades?
Harris: The first three to five years will be difficult, but don’t give up.
PHCPPros: Is there anything from your personal life that you'd like to highlight?
Harris: You have to be diligent about what you want. You have to apply yourself. You have to motivate yourself, and you have to do it for yourself by yourself.
