Henderson Companies, the parent company of Henderson Engineers and Henderson Building Solutions, has launched a new service that will help clients make informed capital investment and operational decisions using building performance data and decades of institutional expertise.

Henderson’s Strategic Consulting service engages owners, architects, general contractors, financial institutions, and other key project stakeholders early in the planning process to help determine where and when to invest resources that will maximize the lifecycle value of these assets. The team remains involved during design, construction, and well beyond occupancy, providing ongoing guidance related to long-term facility performance, maintenance, and management.

“Henderson has worked on virtually all commercial building types across the US and internationally since we were founded in 1970, giving us extensive proprietary data into what enables buildings to operate to their fullest potential,” said Kevin Lewis, CEO and president of Henderson Engineers and president of Henderson Companies. “Our industry traditionally becomes involved in projects long after capital planning and funding decisions have been made, which often limits our clients from fully benefiting from our experience. Strategic Consulting changes that model by allowing us to add value across the entire building lifecycle.”

The service is led by Herbert Els, who brings more than 24 years of industry experience, including over a decade in senior leadership roles at one of the nation’s three largest engineering firms.

Under Els’ leadership, Henderson’s Strategic Consulting service includes:

  • Business Intelligence & Analytics – Under the direction of Katie Molstad, this service enables Henderson to deliver strategic business outcomes for our clients using visualized analytics based on internal and external validated information as a standard measure of operations.
  • Digital Delivery Services – Driven by Jeff Tomkus, this service offering would establish and maintain a unified digital environment (Design side of Digital Twin) across the building owner's portfolio ensuring data consistency, workflow standardization, and operational efficiency across design, construction, and facility management phases. The service encompasses full-lifecycle governance of the design hub collaboration platforms — from project setup and quality assurance to model coordination, handover, and long-term data integration with the end client’s enterprise systems providing the foundation for the future of design by AI.
  • Operations Consulting – Guided by Dan Webb, operations consulting works in close collaboration with facility owners to assess, validate, and document outcome based operational and capital plans informing asset procurement and management strategies. This service defines operational technology requirements that guide digital delivery, system design, and operational transformation, establishing a foundation of governance that supports compliance, safety, and resilience.
  • Predictive Modeling  – Led by Daric Adair, this service utilizes energy and CFD modeling tools to help clients explore building performance opportunities and potential design solutions as an integrated part of the project decision making process. This enables optimizing building performance across multiple operational, energy, and carbon metrics. Leveraging modeling as a performance and validation tool throughout the building lifecycle allows building owners and designers to quickly compare alternatives and drive improvements.
  • Sustainability Consulting – Driven by Laura Brandt, this service establishes a sustainable vision, success strategies, and implementation plans that align with clients' desired outcomes and priorities in the realm of resilience, energy cost and carbon reduction, and health and wellbeing. Henderson’s collaborative approach advises on NetZero, decarbonization and electrification strategies, and renewable energy and utility requirements enabling success through robust performance data and expertly managed third-party high-performance and green building certification processes (LEED, WELL, Living Future, and other recognized programs).

“Today’s building owners and operators are more focused than ever on using performance data to drive operational and strategic decisions,” Els said. “Factors like sustainability, energy efficiency, technology integration, and long-term operational strategies are now central considerations. Our Strategic Consulting team is eager to partner with clients before, during, and long after construction to help them maximize the value and performance of their facilities.”
