Headquartered in Beaumont, Texas, Coburn Supply Co. was founded 90 years ago by Albert Coburn, who established the company on the belief that “The purpose of the company is to provide opportunity and security for its people.” This deeply rooted drive to support team members and foster opportunities for growth has also expanded the company’s footprint. Today, it has evolved into a distributor with more than 50 locations across multiple states, offering commercial and residential products and services in plumbing, electrical, waterworks, and HVAC.
The company remains family-owned and operated, now under the leadership of the fourth generation with Patrick Maloney serving as president and his brother, Michael Maloney, as executive vice president. Over the weekend of September 6-8, the company hosted its 90th-anniversary celebration in New Orleans, attended by team members and their families, alongside manufacturing partners, vendors, rep partners and customers, with a “Best in Class” theme that showcased excellence in service and partnerships.
The event kicked off on Friday afternoon as more than 2,000 team members and guests arrived by motorcoach at the New Orleans Marriott. An evening Welcome Reception set the tone for a weekend dedicated to celebrating team members’ roles in the company’s success through their commitment to customer service, support, and teamwork. The celebration began with an array of fabulous food and libations, a silent disco, and a team member band that kept guests dancing until midnight.
The following morning, team members, vendors, and reps gathered for the presentation of Branch Awards, celebrating high-achieving branch success. The room buzzed with excitement and pride as more than 300 awards were presented. Cheers frequently erupted celebrating friendly branch rivalries and colleagues achievements – a testament to team members’ respect and support for one another. Additionally, all gathered were acknowledged for their tenure with the company, with several marking over 40+ years of service.
With an afternoon open to celebrate the city, the evening’s Grand Gala pulled out all the stops to spotlight team members and industry partnerships. Upon entering the ballroom, guests walked through a beautiful visual tribute to the company’s history- outlining the timeline of growth and celebrating the fourth generation’s vision for the future. Manufacturer and vendor support was also evident from their sponsorship of the weekend’s events.
A video featuring team members’ stories was shown during the gala. It covered how many team members started within the company, their growth opportunities, and their pride in upholding the company’s high standards of excellence.
In the video, team members outlined how the company continues to embody Albert Coburn’s founding principle of providing opportunity and security. “As we continue to grow, there’s room for people to move up to management. There’s room to bring people along and give them opportunities to be warehouse managers, inside sales, branch managers, and more,” said a team member.
Team members also provided personal examples of the “family-like” atmosphere and company culture, where everyone looks out for each other—in both good times and challenging ones. They shared stories of their philanthropic efforts, including raising money for a customer’s daughter who needed a bone marrow transplant. In a typical “can-do” attitude, the branch filled a Yeti cooler with items and raffled it off, raising more than $4,000 for her care. Coburn Supply branches also participate in a “fill the tub” initiative, collecting supplies for local food banks and charities by filling bathtubs within their showrooms.
Other philanthropic activities included the company and its team members raising funds for The Wounded Warrior Project. A baseball cap was auctioned off during the weekend’s event raising thousands of dollars for the Adaptive Sports Center, as well as a generous $9,000 donation from RUUD to the Coburns Cares & Adaptive Sports Center.
During the evening’s reception, a moment of silence respectfully honored team members who had passed away, acknowledging their lasting impact on the company. Later in the evening, the presentation of the company’s highest accolade, the Spirit Award, determined by team member nominations was bestowed. Chairman Don Maloney, Vice-Chairman AJ Maloney, and executives Michael and Patrick Maloney united on stage, to present the distinguished honor.
“We receive hundreds of nominations from all across our company—stories of relentless hard work, commitment to our customers and our work family, honesty, and integrity in the face of adversity, and passion for the work that we do each and every day,” said Michael Maloney. Patrick Maloney added, “These values make Coburn what it is today—and the reason we have enjoyed 90 years of success in this business.”
Guests stood in anticipation as Don Maloney announced, “If you know this person, then you need no explanation. If you don’t, this person checks all the boxes: honesty, integrity, dependability, dedication, and they’re always treating others with the utmost respect.” Thunderous applause erupted as Andy Faggard, commercial sales at Coburn Supply Co., was announced as the recipient of the prestigious Spirit Award.
For Coburn Supply their belief in providing opportunities for team member growth, and making decisions by keeping in mind how it will impact its team members, is a foundational belief that sets its company apart, and fosters a growth oriented company culture. On Sunday morning, as team members loaded the buses to return to their respective Coburn communities, it was evident how employee empowerment propels people and the company forward. Cheers to Coburn Supply and its team members who guide the company in delivering excellence while supporting colleagues and customers along the way.
